Motionhouse:
- Physical theatre company
- Dynamic dance
- About time & how it pulls us
- Waiting
- Nurturing
- Growing
- Fear of ageing
- Notion of feeling out of control
- Each person has their own perception of time
What Went Well:
The audience understood that we were waiting for something and that time was moving slowly. They could tell I was annoyed when Lily cut in front of me as I raised one eyebrow and pursed my lips to show that I was angry at her. We used our bodies to glide when we walked which added to the physical aspect.
Even Better If:
The piece was longer, as we could have put more emotion and more movement into the piece.
21/09/17
We learnt different ways of getting in and out of the floor. We also learnt different ways to travel in a space. We created a piece based on traveling and we imagined that we were being chased by an imaginary hand that was moving us and pulling us in different directions. I found it a little difficult to understand, and get the hang of the 5 ways of getting in and out of the floor, at first, but over time and once I had practised, I understood and it became easier to do.
What Went Well:
We worked well as a team, and listened to each other's ideas and we found it pretty easy to incorporate them into the piece. We used some good physical aspects and managed to include a few of the ways of getting in and out of the floor. We were also able to include some traveling movements into the piece.
Even Better If:
We included more of the movements that we learnt. If we timed it better, and were able to make it more smooth and slick.
28/09/17
In the lesson today we created a sequence of movements based on the theme of movement. We took the idea that someone was pushing and pulling us in different directions. I tried to make my individual solo intricate and different as some people did quite basic movements like just stepping forward, but I for example, chose to lift my leg and lean forward but not touch the floor again until I stepped back.
What Went Well:
We taught and learnt each others solo phrases well and we expressed good teamwork when we helped each other with the pacing of our solo's and the different types of movements we could add to them to make them longer and better.
Even Better If:
To carry on rehearsing and going over our pieces to make sure they flow smoothly.
05/10/17
In the lesson today we mainly focused and put a lot of effort into the beginning sequence of the performance and making sure it was slick and perfect and that it ran smoothly. However we also did some work on our movement solo's, following last week.
What Went Well:
We all used our teamwork skills to work on the timings of the work we have so far for the dance show. Making we all do our part to be in time and help others to make sure they're in time. We listened to each others ideas on how we could improve our movements and certain parts of the piece.
12/10/17
Tamsin and I worked on our duet at the beginning of the piece. Now instead of her just pushing me into my place, she places her hand on my shoulder, we hold hands, she spins me under her arm, we swing our left arm over our shoulder, flop over and then rise up slowly. We further progressed in our show piece adding in things where they are needed. Also we worked on different ways of getting in and out of the floor.
What Went Well:
The group kept good timing as an ensemble. We also worked well as a group to further our dance show piece.
Even Better If:
I struggled a little when finding a way to get in and out of the floor, as I wanted to make mine different to other people's as I didn't want to just do something simple like a slide. Therefore I would like to work on my ability to get in and out of the floor and I want to look at different ways of traveling.
19/10/17
In the lessons today we worked more on our group dance. We also worked on creating our solo extracts to go into our dance show piece. For my solo, I took some movements from each of the phrases we have learnt, and then created a solo dance from that. I created a fragmented solo.
What Went Well:
Tamsin and I, expressed leadership when we tought Amy and Jamie our duet from the beginning of the dance show piece. We tought them as they copy what we do a little later on in the dance.
Even Better If:
Continue working on my solo, making sure that everything looks smooth and that each move is easy to transition into the next one. This is so my solo will still look good and 'make sense' I guess you could say.
26/10/17
In our lesson today, we fully finished the choreography for our dance show piece, and spent majority of the time running through the piece, to make sure we were all confident with the new movements that we had learnt. We also spent some time working indivdually on any parts of the dance that we weren't to confident with. This was so we could make the dance run smoothly and make it looing slick.
What Went Well:
We displayed good teamwork skills when going over the dance piece to make sure we were all confident when it came to all the new transitions and movements that we had learnt in the lesson and to make sure we were confident with all the different dynamics of certain moves.
Even Better If:
We carry on working on the group dance piece to make sure every move and transition is slick, smooth and perfect for when we perform our piece.
09/11/17
Similarly to our other previous lessons, we were going over the sequence and making sure we all remembered our individual moments especially for the sequences that we made ourselves. We also spent some time thinking about the certain elements of contemporary dance that we included in our ensemble piece, as well as the different ways we have developed our movements.
30/11/17
In this lesson we worked on our duets for the parent scene in Hope Springs. This is so we could improve them and add more complex movements to them. We also tried to make them flow more smoothly. We went through the different techniques that we used in our sequence. Also in our lesson today we taught each other our group sequences as in Hope Springs we all did the same movements as each group of parents and their child did their individual sequence.
What Went Well:
Me, Lily and Laura, used our teamwork skills to improve and add to our group sequence. We wanted our piece to flow smoothly and we also needed to extend our piece further. Because of this we decided to add in jumps, more turns/twists, some bounces, more arm and leg swings and more floor work as we didn't include much floor work in our original sequence.
Even Better If:
At first my group wasn't too confident about some of the movements from Harriet and Tamsin's sequence, as we were worried that we wouldn't be able to do some of them. However once we had learnt the full sequence and we had practised it a few times, we overcame our fear and panic and were able to relax and do the sequence well.
09/01/18
In our lesson today we made more improvements for our physical theatre pieces in Hope Springs. I came up with some new ideas that would introduce to our sequence so that we could improve it.
What Went Well:
As a group we all came up some good new ideas, so that we were able to improve. We added more movement to our piece and some new steps to make it longer and a little more complex as we didn't want it to be too simple.
Even Better If:
We could try to include more contemporary style steps and transitions, for example rolls and slides. Rather than stepping from one place to another, by adding a slide or a roll we can make the sequence flow easier and more smoothly.
